The Lords' math quiz
Uhhh... numbers...
Yep, that was the initial reaction to this puzzle too. The idea is to follow the clues of the Lords in the correct order. For anyone interested, here's the exact calculation you're supposed to do.
First, Lord Might mentions you should start with his number, which is "two primes less than twice the crystals in this mess." Count correctly and you'll find there are 13 crystals in Arachnoid Cavern. Times two, that's 26. Now take two primes less than this number (a prime can only be divided by 1 and itself). The first prime less than 26 is 23, the second is 19. So Lord Might's number is 19.
Lord Might also says to follow the other clues "in an order Lord Word would find agreeable." That sounds complicated, but it just means alphabetical order: Might (since he says start with him), Accuracy, Endurance, Luck, Magic, Prayer, Speed, Word.
You already have Might's number, so move on to Lord Accuracy: "add half the number there could be of you." The maximum party size is 8 (six characters plus two hirelings), so add 4 to 19, making 23.
Next, Lord Endurance: "Count these thrones, and add that too." There are 10 thrones in Arachnoid Cavern, so add 10 to 23, making 33.
Lord Luck: "Add Lord Might's number, then multiply by two." Add 19 to 33 to get 52, then multiply by 2: 104.
Lord Magic: "Subtract the gongs, then multiply by fifty-two." There are four gongs, so subtract 4 to get 100, then multiply by 52: 5200.
Lord Prayer: "Multiply by the number of gongs to make your answer true." Four gongs again, so multiply by 4: 20800.
Lord Speed: "Subtract 449 is all you must do." That gives 20351.
Finally, Lord Word: "Subtract my price, and you will be through." His price for the Linguist skill is 50 Gems, so subtract 50, and the final answer is 20301.
Phew, that was a hard one. The reward is worth it, though!
