One Level Project — Step 4

Advanced Equipment

The first big payouts are in the bank and it is time to invest. The most important weapon class to upgrade is ranged — bows carry the whole run.

Where to Buy Bows

Good bows are sold in Free Haven, at the weapon shop near the bridge. The best available are sold exclusively in White Cap.

Teleport to White Cap, stand outside the shop one minute past six, save your game and start re-rolling the inventory. Patience pays off — you can find composite bows with solid (e.g. 2–12) extra magical damage.

What to Buy, What to Skip

  • Avoid bows that give +5 to a stat or double damage against a specific creature type — they will be useless against many enemies.
  • Best are bows with Fire, Electric, or Cold extra damage.
  • A good result is 2–12 Fire or 4–10 Electric. Settling for 4–6 magic damage is the last resort of a tired shopkeeper.
  • Important: once you buy one item, the shop's stock does not refresh for some time (roughly one in-game month). So try hard before making your first purchase — sometimes you can grab several great bows in one visit.

The same re-rolling principle applies to all other shops, including magic item stores.

Other Shops to Visit

  • Armour shop in Ironfist (upper floor),
  • Spear shop in Blackshire,
  • Spell shops in Free Haven.

Stop there — the gold will run out. Shop wisely so every party member gains something, rather than pouring everything into one flashy ring for a single character.

With the Archer–Paladin–Paladin–Archer lineup I managed to get good chain mail, standard plate armour (still +20 armour class) and one composite bow by this stage.

What Comes Next

Continue quests as you see fit — and remember: do not train. Highlights to look for:

  • Mordred's Dagger — rewarding to deliver, and it sells for a good price afterwards.
  • Altar-destruction quest in Silver Cove — several thousand gold hidden among the plants.
  • Ironfist temple filled with skeletons — contains a treasury and a torch hiding 5000 gold.
