Blackwind Dungeon
Corak's Notes
No living soul has ventured into Blackwind Dungeon for many years. A strange magic fell upon these halls when Blackwind's power broke, bending all paths so that those who stray from an unseen route wander lost without end. Three statues stand silent in the corners: Blood Mane in the northwest — Blackwind's battle beast, brutal and relentless, for whom death was the only destiny of its prey; Tempest Storm in the southwest — Hamon Othreute's legendary mount, carrier of hundreds of victorious campaigns; and Hamon the Warlord himself in the southeast — once the scourge of VonEmosh's rising undead army in Phantom Peaks, now only stone and memory.
Enemies: Cursed Fools Blackwind Dungeon is within Castle Blackwind.
- 1Entrance/Exit.
- 2Statue of Blood Mane (NW corner) — Blackwind's battle beast, a creature of pure destruction.
- 3Statue of Tempest Storm (SW corner) — Hamon Othreute's mount, legendary carrier of hundreds of victorious campaigns. A more remarkable beast was never seen in all of Terra.
- 4Statue of Hamon Othreute (SE corner) — Blackwind's Warlord. A repentant enemy may win the Warlord's favor by surrendering an offering of gold at his feet.
Blackwind Dungeon is inhabited by Cursed Fools — remnants of Blackwind's forces, altered by his evil magic. They are slow (Speed 15) but strike three times per round and, most dangerously, curse those they touch. Their loathing for Sorcerers is legendary: any Sorcerer in the party will draw their attacks first. Protect your spellcaster before engaging.
The dungeon's chief hazard is its layout. A strange magic bends the corridors of Blackwind Dungeon: stray from the correct path and you will be teleported back to the entrance or into a dead end. Move systematically and map your route — the guide map shows the safe path through the dungeon.
Three statues mark the corners. Blood Mane (location 2, northwest) and Tempest Storm (location 3, southwest) are lore relics of Hamon Othreute's campaigns — examining them reveals the history of Blackwind's military years. The statue of Hamon Othreute himself (location 4, southeast) has a practical function: surrender gold as an offering and the Warlord's spirit will grant you his blessing.
