Castle Greywind
Corak's Notes
Reptiles and unwelcome creatures now rule the halls of Castle Greywind, but the true occupant is the spirit of Greywind the Illusionist, trapped here by a curse laid by his former ally Blackwind. Three thrones along the western wall hold extraordinary rewards — but only on day 50 of the year, the anniversary of Greywind's wedding. The fountain built as a wedding gift can cure all ailments, though the greedy Anathema demands payment even from beyond the grave.
Enemies: Dinosaurs, Fire Lizards, Screamers Castle Greywind is in area C4 — Isles of Illusion: West (X5 Y8).
- 1Greywind's Throne — his spirit sits along the southern wall. Fulfill the conditions to break his curse and he will reward you with knowledge vital to finishing the game.
- 2Throne of Great Power — +10 to all seven statistics for the entire party (day 50 only; using it advances time by 1 day).
- 3Throne of Great Possession — 6 L6 items (day 50 only; reward resets annually).
- 4Throne of Great Riches — 1,000,000 gold + 10,000 gems (day 50 only; reward resets annually).
- 5Fountain of Anathema — cures the entire party of all ailments; cost: 10,000 gold.
- 6Descent to Greywind Dungeon — the dungeon below the castle with its own traps and treasure.
Castle Greywind is a ruined fortress where the spirit of Greywind awaits release. The throne along the southern wall (location 1) is the primary goal — freeing his spirit rewards the party with knowledge that must be combined with information from Blackwind in Castle Blackwind to complete the game.
The three thrones along the western wall (locations 2–4) function only on day 50 of the year — the day Greywind married Anathema. The Throne of Great Power is one of the most valuable rewards in the game: +10 to all seven statistics for the entire party at once. Note that using it advances the calendar by one day, so visit the other thrones first if you plan to claim all three rewards on the same visit. The Possession and Riches thrones reset annually and can be revisited each year.
The Fountain of Anathema (location 5) cures all negative conditions: poison, disease, curse, aging, and unconsciousness. At 10,000 gold it is a bargain at this stage of the game and worth using after difficult fights with Dinosaurs and Fire Lizards.
The castle also holds scattered caches of L5 items and gold. Some gold lying freely on the floor is illusory — a fitting legacy of the Illusionist. Genuine deposits are at fixed coordinates.
